Education Finance Consultant

Up to £30,000 per annum + benefits

We are looking to recruit an Education Finance Consultant to work as part of a regional finance consultancy team for the the UK's largest integrated education improvement and support service provider.

The organisation are a FTSE support services business and their Education division works with early years' settings, schools, academies, multi-academy trusts, teaching school alliances, UTCs, local authorities and government departments. The role of the Education Finance Consultant is to work with schools and academies in Devon so support them with their monthly and yearly financial reporting commitments, whilst providing advice and implementing effective controls

Major Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Visiting schools to support budget preparation and ongoing monitoring
  • Review and ensure all necessary controls are in place
  • Providing a responsive service to schools remotely or at the school
  • Be viewed as a source of expertise of current education issues concerning finance and school based personnel issues
  • Highlighting areas of concern to schools and to line management
  • Able to be flexible in approach and cope with varying demands from individual school administrators / head teachers
  • Able to deliver financial training to school staff & Governors and also provide coaching to school staff
  • Team player - supporting other team members with workload peaks / sharing knowledge / willingness to ask another team member for guidance
  • Willingness to keep up to date in the ever changing world of education
  • Be conscious of Health & Safety / Risk assessment as involves substantial travel and potential lone working

Qualifications or equivalent experience

  • Extensive experience in a similar school/local authority finance role
  • Full knowledge of financial requirements of academies and local authority schools
  • Awareness of the demands of an academy and the variance to the maintained school
  • AAT Professional studies (part qualified or full AAT level)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience of the school based applications such as FMS / SIMS
  • Budget setting and monitoring
  • Preparing financial reports for senior leadership team / external reporting to the local authority
  • Financial administration including knowledge of reconciliations / Petty Cash and the month end process
  • Customer care skills to be able to quickly build rapport with the school staff
  • Ability to manage a full workload and schedule diary appointments
  • Tact and discretion when dealing with confidential information owned by the school
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel and Outlook

The role is offered on a full time working pattern, fixed term for 6 months initially with possible permanent contract offering and starting salary of up to£30,000 per annum + benefits that include flexible working hours and 25 days annual leave including bank holidays.
