Production Director - £competitive salary, Market Leading, Global Engineering Organisation

I am recruiting on behalf of a global engineering support organisation and market leader across multiple industries worldwide. This particular role functions within their marine and technology division, providing vital support to the Royal navy and other high profile clients.

Reporting to the Production and Supply Chain Director, you will be responsible for all Production activities, across the business, including planning, scheduling, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, repair and overhaul

Main Purpose of Role

  • Provide strategic direction to the Production staff. Formulate plans, set a strategic vision aligned to the overall DST business objectives, set KPIs and drive performance improvements.
  • Develop production and resource plans that meet the company's goals for safety, quality, utilisation and cost.
  • Ensure that agreed production schedules are achieved and identify opportunities to implement improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, agree and implement a capital expenditure programme to ensure that our manufacturing facilities and capabilities are optimised to the needs of the business.
  • Contribute as a member of the senior team, reporting to the Production and Supply Chain Director, in major decisions and the development of relevant programmes and policies of work.
  • Develop best practices for managing, allocating and accruing project resources, selecting, developing and evaluating the team to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Ensure the supply chain is managed effectively such that materials and services are available to meet operational demands at minimum stock holding and cost.
  • Lead strategic workforce activities to support current and future needs, including alignment and implementation of technical and behavioural competencies, development, identification of talent and succession planning in line with HR activity.

Requirements

  • Qualified to degree-level (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or industry specialism
  • Significant experience in a Head of Production (or similar) role.
  • Able to work at a strategic level with proven experience in leading production teams operating across various complex industrial sites (engineering/construction)
  • Significant experience in leadership roles
  • Strategic thinking and strong commercial acumen.
  • Extensive experience in adopting Lean Six Sigma techniques, ideally black belt trained
  • Customer focused with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Collaborative and influential with outstanding communication skills.
  • Goal-orientated - focused on team and business outcomes.
  • Able to coach, motivate and inspire teams towards solutions
  • Experience of managing in a unionised environment.
