You'll sit at the crossroads between science, technology and user experience. Our client will look to you to root out and clarify user needs with product managers, engineers, bioinformaticians, researchers and designers; talk with and listen to patients, participants, clinicians and researchers in the field. They have lots of ongoing projects currently at different stages, from discovery to alpha, beta and live.

This role is responsible for developing the vision and strategy for Design and Research, setting the direction for the team and promoting a human/service-centred culture. You will manage a team of Service Designers, Product Designers, Content Designers and Researchers to create products and services that are intuitive, intelligent, habit forming and delightful.

The ideal candidate is user and service focussed and committed to creating habit forming products and services that customers love.


  • Set the vision, strategy and roadmap for user experience, design and research including clear goals and metrics that align with the overall business strategy
  • Spot opportunities for innovation and efficiency, and turn these insights into concrete outcomes that align with our strategy
  • Lead the team of designers and researchers including mentoring and coaching to develop the capabilities of the designers and researchers in the team
  • Embed a culture of design and research within the organisation, through acting as a personal advocate, mentoring people within the business and highlighting it as a priority
  • Set the direction for customer research undertaken by the team, to get insight on customer experience trends and best practice
  • Act as an advocate for service-backed thinking across the organisation
  • Define the UX toolset for the design team using best practice knowledge
  • Lead the development of a design system
  • Leading the thinking around Human-Centred AI/ML for health
  • Ensure a high level of quality for the interaction with the products and services
  • Create and drive external collaboration with users, building products and services centred around the user
  • Know and understand the meaning behind our virtues of Empathy, Integrity, Focus, Connection, Speed, Curiosity, Impact and embody them in all aspects of the role.


  • Degree in HCI/Design/Social Science
  • 12+ years work experience in leading multi-disciplinary design and research teams
  • Recent roles at a senior position with evidence of managing and mentoring a team successfully
  • Able to employ different approaches to design - both lean and experimental
  • Significant experience making data-driven decisions
  • Knowledgeable about the basics of machine learning and statistical analysis
  • Strong organisational skills and evidence of leading multiple workstreams simultaneously with effective prioritisation
  • Desirable:
  • Experience working in complex system design
  • Experience creating, and working within an Agile environment
  • Experience in Human-Centred AI, Data and Design etc
