Digital Solutions Architect

Location: Milton Keynes
Duration: 6 Months

The Digital Architect will define all digital channel technology options and investments, make recommendations to the Digital Delivery team on digital technology and standards, and also influence and make recommendations to key business stakeholders on business system options for digital technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and define the Delivery roadmap to support VWFS UK's journey to become a digital financial services company by incorporating SMAC (Social, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud), Web, Self Service and emerging capabilities into VWFS UK's technology portfolio.
  • Act as a design authority for the business and the Digital Delivery community in defining and developing the architectural roadmap for digital channels and aspirations.
  • Own alignment between VWFS UK's strategic imperatives and digital delivery plan by engaging relevant stakeholders at all stages of project delivery.
  • Develop and monitor a roadmap for the development of a digital architecture for VWFS UK and its integration into Core IT architecture.
  • Select the tools specifying the shared data, software and infrastructure resources required to implement the digital roadmap.
  • Define the standards and governance for the use of digital technologies, influencing adoption across all areas of VWFS UK and monitoring and reporting on adoption.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in digital technology and architecture and advise on digital assets and products to drive business benefit.
  • Ensure that the technological architecture supports the digital strategy and is delivered in a timely and cost effective manner in alignment with business plans.
  • Interface with and influence VWFS HQ on Digital Architecture direction by engaging with relevant VWFS HQ stakeholders as and when necessary.
  • Builds relationships with the Digital Unit Berlin on global architecture for digital assets and products and be an active member of the Architecture Governance Board in VWFS UK
  • Responsible for defining and influencing VWFS UK's application architecture to exploit digital opportunities, e.g. definition of a presentation layer and standard interfaces that allow easy make-or-buy decisions of digital products and services.

Education, Training and Expertise:

  • Educated to degree level in computer science or a similar discipline, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in Solution Architecture with a focus on digital architecture and design with proven experience leading architecture initiatives in a results oriented business.
  • Experience of delivery of digital or e-commerce architectures within a large and complex organisation with a significant heritage applications portfolio.
  • Experience of documenting clear business cases with stated objectives, costs, and financial benefits.
  • Proven experience in setting up multi-channel architectures, mobile applications and social media integration.
  • Experience in the use of Enterprise Architecture tools such as, but not confined to, PlanningIT, Salamander MooD and IBM Rational System Architect.
  • An advanced understanding of Service Orientated Architecture design, demonstrating how this can be implemented across the Enterprise.
  • Experience of contributing to Invitation to Tender (ITT) technology procurement exercises to define detailed requirements.
  • Experience of working with third party partners and software vendors during the design and build of the technical architecture for IT solutions.
  • Qualification in TOGAF, Zachman or similar.
  • Experience of the design and implementation of IT solutions using an Agile development methodology, e.g. Lean, Kanban, Scrum, and DSDM.
  • Previous Financial Services, Automotive Finance or Retail Consumer Finance (B2C) experience.

Skills and Personal Characteristics:

  • Strong skills in designing architectures from presentation to supporting infrastructure.
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills, with the ability to influence decision-makers up to Senior Management levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex data and arguments in a way that is accessible to everyone
  • A good working knowledge of leading security practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of IT software development trends and new technologies, particularly those related to the implementation of a digital strategy.
  • Agile approach and ability to keep up with the pace of change, learn fast and adapt to the new conditions quickly and effectively.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make decisions in spite of incomplete information.
  • Explorer's mind - strong desire to innovate, take risks and think outside the box.
  • A tenacious approach with the focus and determination to get things done effectively, looking for solutions to overcome difficulties
  • Obsessed with the customer and continuously looking to deliver exceptional customer experience and customer value.
