As a Software Engineer you'll have responsibility throughout the full development cycle. You'll apply your skills to design, develop, and test software. Whether you're creating new products in our transformational programs or enhancing existing ones, you'll have the opportunity to listen to what each customer needs and bring all the elements together to provide solutions.

Currently, they have the fifth largest super computer infrastructure in the world, comprising more than 65 petaflops of processing power. You will join a team of software experts with a variety of core competencies such as user experience (UX), front end and back end developers.

Job Specification:

With my client, a software developer is required to strengthen the product software development team. The focus of this team is the delivery of commercial desktop solutions for the energy sector.

This work requires the successful applicant to have the flexibility to work across a broad technology stack, as well as being able to shape and influence the delivered solutions.

The software development team works closely with product and service teams in Abingdon and from the wider client organisation, as well as engaging with external groups on aspects such user centred design and development.

To be successful the applicant must be comfortable working in an Agile software development environment, be able to demonstrate strong initiative, as well as proactively collaborating with other groups. There is a strong focus for this role on delivering exceptional User Experience. Therefore, ability to analyse and understand user experience and behaviour and successfully transfer this into the design and development of the commercial deliveries is considered key.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong in C#, WPF, C++
  • Excellent understanding of OO design and SOLID principles
  • Self-motivated with a willing to learn attitude who values quality over speed
  • Experience using testing frameworks and implementing automated tests at the unit, integration and system level
  • Ability to work in a team environment that is fast-paced and follows Agile development practices
  • Ability to work to commercial deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to offer technical support and guidance to other members of the team is desirable

Qualifications:

Either: Bachelors/Masters in Computer science / Software engineering, or Masters or above in a mathematical, scientific or engineering discipline.
