Data Solutions Architect- Bolton- 6 Months.

We are looking for an experienced Data Solutions Architect contractor to join the Data Services team on a fixed term contract supporting all aspects of data delivery to an Insurance business.

The role

Working as part of a team you will be tasked with:

  • Designing modern, scalable data architectures leveraging existing and emerging technologies, covering both on-premises and cloud-based deployment patterns
  • Contributing to the overall data architecture that will support current and future data needs of the Insurance business
  • Providing advisory services and thought leadership on modernising analytics environments leveraging big data technologies, including integration with existing data and analytics platforms and tools (cloud data analytics, EDWs, data integration, BI platforms, etc.)
  • Re-architecting and rationalizing traditional data environments
  • Defining standards for naming, governing, modelling, managing, transforming, cleansing, enriching, storing, and delivering data across Insurance
  • Leading innovation through collaboration
  • Building and maintaining a library of artefacts to assist with design and support a Data Governance Framework


  • Track record of successful data solution architecture design to enable delivery of data for reporting and analytics consumption
  • Track record of technical delivery in an agile project environment
  • Data modelling, object modelling, Big Data technologies and design patterns
  • Hosting specification and cloud computing (Azure preferred)
  • Database platforms - such as Databricks, Snowflake, Oracle and SQL Server (preferably) or others MPP, NoSQL and Columnar data stores
  • Data acquisition, transformation and forwarding tools and/or services (such as Informatica, SSIS, Kalido, Data Factory, Logic Apps)
  • Reporting, analytics and visualisation platforms and/or services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present information concisely
  • Ability to manage a demanding workload
  • Thought Leadership and self sufficiency


  • Implementing Self-Service BI
  • Innovative data organisation approaches beyond legacy data warehouse paradigms, such as Graph, Key Value and Document databases
  • Up to date knowledge of leading edge technology options and vendors
  • Track record of collaboration and re-use of solutions in global organisations
  • SOA and web / mobile / social technologies
  • Understanding of corporate and global IT strategy and infrastructure
