Data Engineer

With their HQ based in Farnborough, our client are experts in defence, aerospace, security and related markets. We're looking for a motivated graduate to join their experienced team and work with Technical Specialists to develop within Data Engineering and Splunk by working across a variety of technical projects for important customers.

The Role

The team has a portfolio of projects for Security, Defence and Commercial customers, and the team includes Data Science specialists, Systems Engineers and Human Science Practitioners as well as Software/System Engineers.

They also support important projects across the whole company, that include producing solutions for leading-edge applications in Big Data, some DevOps projects, applications requiring models of complex systems and applications requiring Enterprise level integration of components. Increasingly these solutions exploit Agile development and Cloud based services.

You'll have some commercial experience of working with data-intensive projects and a curiosity to work in a variety of domains, with a variety of technology stacks including different programming languages. Experience working in a customer-facing role is desirable and the ability to think clearly, communicate openly, collaborate, and influence a range of stakeholders are all required.

  • Working with the wider team to design and implement solutions.
  • Integrating Open Source components into micro-services, both as prototypes and in a DevOps style.
  • Participating in tasks within implementation projects.
  • Liaison with customer technical representatives.
  • Looking for and suggesting opportunities to further improve the products.

Person Specification

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Qualified to at least University Honours STEM Degree or equivalent.
  • A desire to develop skills using Splunk
  • Programming skills
  • Knowledge of Open Source techniques and tooling.
  • Enthusiastic and driven to be part of a high-performing team.
  • Excellent verbal and written technical English communications skills.

Desirable experience in any of the following:

  • Experience of working in Agile or scaled Agile teams.
  • Any understanding of a DevOps environment
  • Exposure to Big Data tools, virtualisation and Cloud technologies
