Overall job purpose:

Responsible for ensuring that the clients digital products are underpinned by a robust data architecture. The role will include ensuring all enterprise products across operational and research aspects of genomics business systems are supported by a clear and maintained data architecture.

Where appropriate this will include adoption of standards such as OMOP. The data architect will report to the CTO and will be assigned to the appropriate product / data squad. The data architect will be accountable for the data architecture including data flows, data dictionaries and data models. The data architect will also own the enterprise information architecture and will ensure that this is modelled within the enterprise architecture tooling.

Key accountabilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring all products are underpinned by a clear data architecture
  • Ensure proper use of secondary data
  • Ensure data models, data flows are documented to support medical device accreditation
  • Work with solution architects to ensure that the appropriate database technologies are deployed to support the business need
  • Contribute to data modelling standards
  • Accountable for the full lifecycle of architecture development and governance for a product as part of a cross functional SQUAD delivery model

Essential Skills

  • 3 - 4 years' experience of data architecture within a life science, genomics or health care secondary uses setting
  • Data modelling including ER modelling, Data flow diagrams
  • Knowledge of genomic data structures including VCF's and associated meta data such as tiering - demonstrated experience of working in this environment
  • Proven leadership skills and practical experience of data architecture across complex range data database technologies including relational, nonrelational data, unstructured object storage, cloud database technologies
  • Communication skills (data). Ability to establish the needs of technical and business stakeholders and interpret them
  • Data analysis and synthesis. Experience of undertaking data profiling and source system analysis. You can present clear insights to colleagues to support the end use of the data
  • Data governance. Ability to establish and manage data governance processes. Know how to assure and integrate data services to meet the needs of multiple business services
  • Data innovation. Understand the impact of emerging trends on the organisation in data tools, analysis techniques and data usage
  • Experience in data modelling - able to produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas.
  • Data standards. Able to develop and set data standards across multiple subject areas.
  • Metadata management. Able to design and contribute to metadata repository
  • Problem resolution (data). Able to take most appropriate actions to resolve problems as they occur

Strategic thinking (data architecture). Ability to work within strategic context and communicate how activities meet strategic goals

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a big data environment at the cutting edge of data analytics / data science
  • Knowledge of Cloud database technologies including Redshift, Snowflake, MongoDB, AWS RDS, Postgres
  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture TOGAF methodologies and tooling
  • Experience with data standards such as OMOP

Essential skills if filling Standards Interoperability skillset (not all applicants)

  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards FHIR Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources
  • Knowledge of Ga4gh standards
