Data Analyst - Investment banking, SQL, Agile, Data Reporting

Duration: 6 Month Contract

Location: Central London

Rate: £400 per day

Role Overview:

An accomplished data-focused Business Analyst is required for this AGILE delivery team within Funding and Liquidity Management, Treasury IT based in Canary Wharf.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills will be required to ensure that data and system analysis user stories are completed to the highest of standards. Hands-on SQL experience is required as well as strong Investment Banking / Financial domain knowledge as tasks will sit across both technical and business-related. Stakeholder management will be a key aspect of this role.

Additionally, a primary responsibility will be to work with our business partners to agree and translate business feed data into detailed User Stories. This will result in the production and ongoing maintenance of all relevant artefacts in Agile Central. The creation and updating of system functionality within Confluence (or other wiki like system) for the developers within the team to understand will also be a major responsibility.

  • The role is 'front to back' and includes working with offshore locations (Prague and Pune) and directly with both the Product Owner and relevant Business teams. The main Business Users and technology teams are based in London and work for the Investment Bank but the teams scope is global and across Business area (i.e. involves other parts such as IB, Retail, Wealth, Corporate) so, overall the business engagement is broad and diverse.

Skill and Role Description:

  • Work with key stakeholders (Product Owner, Business, Development Teams) to determine and document User Stories.
  • Provide intellectual leadership and act as the collaboration bridge between business and technical teams.
  • Critical thinker - must pay attention to detail and create SQL/approach/results that stand up to scrutiny.
  • Provide functional input and direction into the production of technical design, so the technical outcomes are delivered.
  • Work with development team leads to help them fully understand the Product Owner and Business needs.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to the rest of the team, inspect and adapt test cases etc and ensure these are suitable to meet business outcomes. Support the developers and the rest of the team through any testing as required. One Team mentality.
  • Work with business on cutover planning, training etc to ensure the solution is fully adopted and embedded within the 'to be' business operating model.
  • Attend key governance routines and provide input into key delivery meetings, including steering committees, daily stand-up, Agile ceremonies and working groups as required. Communicate and act as the subject matter expert in these routines.
  • "Feed the machine" when required to do so. By ensuring compliance with PMO, Programme and Project standards as needed.

The following are the primary skills required in the role:

  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills, including ability to think beyond what the users initially put forward as requirements and factor in the appropriate level of functional and technical future proofing
  • The successful candidate must have a strong data component to their experience; this must include hands on SQL and experience with at least one RDBMS, ideally SQL Server.
  • SQL Data Analysis, Data Reporting, Supporting the delivery teams, Data Extraction and quality Data Analysis.
  • Must be proficient with issue tracking systems and wikis, preferred Agile Central and Confluence.
  • Prior IT development experience, preferably with an Agile understanding.
  • Previous Financial Domain Experience is essential with knowledge of Liquidity management and related Regulatory demands preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with senior management and various other stakeholders, both verbally and in written form. Ability to communicate at all levels and flex style to the audience
  • Must be forthright and capable of challenging where proposed solutions, approach etc are not appropriate. Saying 'No' with valid explains and offering an alternative way forward is a required skill. There is no wrong answer.
  • Production of high quality auditable artefacts and Product Owner signoffs.
  • Ability to prepare standard and ad-hoc presentation decks in a timely manner on required topics, from high level functional overview to detailed technical overview of key data flows.
  • Ability to effectively engage and work with a global team.
  • Have self-motivation and initiation traits.
  • Ideally have understanding and working knowledge of Treasury and Liquidity reporting, as a minimum be a quick learner.
  • Great team player, able to balance the needs of stakeholders and IT.
