Role : CTO team Desktop Engineer

Overall purpose of role

This role is for a Specialist in the Desktop Services Software Deployments Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Application and security update deployments in servers and workstation estates
  • Software release support
  • Deployment Self-service support
  • Proactive identification of potential issues that may affect deployments
  • Problem resolution including: problem management, root cause analysis and implementation of remedies.
  • Effective and prompt problem management
  • Maintaining close working relationships with all stakeholders (business areas, build teams and other support teams).
  • Continuous Service Improvement management in designated deployments area.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support regular systems management tasks such as patching, deployments and new application releases.
  • Ensure that all activities are handled promptly and effectively. Pro-active in the review of implemented solutions to ensure that they are fit for purpose. Provide improvements/changes to the windows platform, in support of client requirements and the strategy.
  • Provide systems management reports to business and technical areas, including detailed feedback of any issues
  • Demonstrates expertise, commitment and ingenuity in expert application of available facilities to non-standard situations, diagnosing underlying causes of difficulties, and devising solutions or workarounds to ensure that the effect on service is minimal
  • Manages interface with other teams, internal and external stakeholders as necessary. Where required, undertakes work outside of direct responsibility, to ensure business continuity.
  • Ensures skill set is kept relevant and identifies benefits of emerging technologies. Also attends and contributes to workshops, seminars and presentations that help to enhance the GTIS vision.
  • Carries out fault diagnosis relating to complex problems, reporting the results of such diagnosis in a clear and concise manner.
  • Effective training of team members on systems management procedures
  • Responsible for driving own Performance Development, collating relevant documentation, preparing for and arranging reviews and 1:1's
  • Undertake accredited training required and provided by the area

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • SCCM 2012 / 2007 experience developed in a large enterprise (10 000 + endpoints)
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server /2012/2008/2003; Windows 10/ 7, transact SQL, SSRS, PowerShell
  • Effective verbal, written and presentational skills
  • Strong analytical ability to effectively troubleshoot software deployment issues and create custom solutions

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft App-V 4.6/ App-V 5.1 and Windows Installer technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows security - IPSEC, GPOs, Antivirus, patching, endpoint security.
  • Basic knowledge of VMWare ESX, Citrix XenApp 6.5 / 7.12, Adaptiva OneSite
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
