Rona Island (Remote living)

6 Month initial contract

£9.50 per hour

We are looking for a hard working individual who can work efficiently on their own and as part of a team. The role is based on Rona Island working on a weekly shift pattern (see below). The successful candidate will ideally have a NVQ Level 1 in Food preparation and Cooking and be trained in food health and safety.

You will travel to Rona island via Helicopter (please be aware you will be required to complete Helicopter Underwater Escape Training once started in the role).

Shift Pattern

Week 1 - Cook 10.5 hour days 7 days of the week

Week 2 - off

Week 3 - Housekeeper 10.5 hour days 7 days of week

Week 4 - Off

Accommodation is included free of charge as well as 3 meals a deal and free helicopter transfers from Kyle of Lochalsh.

Outline of duties:

  • Complying with the requirements of all Health & Safety and Food Safety Regulations.
  • Maintaining the highest possible standards of hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Provision of 3 meals a day for up to 30 staff and visitors.
  • Placing orders for provisions with local suppliers.
  • Ensuring the standard of housekeeping is satisfactory.
  • Assisting the cook as required with general kitchen duties when housekeeping.
  • Providing a laundry service to support housekeeping duties.
  • Allocating accommodation rooms to visitors.
  • Experience of working in a commercial kitchen.
  • Able to use varied recipes to deliver 3 cooked meals a day.
  • Knowledge of modern cooking equipment and practices.
  • Understanding of housekeeping techniques in a hotel environment.
  • Able to use industrial cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • Computer literate.
  • Well organised, able to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Willing to work away from home in remote self-contained island location.
  • Flexible approach to shift working.
  • Willing to undertake helicopter underwater escape training.
  • Helicopter travel to and from Rona.
  • Able to attain basic UK security clearance.

Must have:

  • NVQ Level 1 in Professional Cookery.
  • Level 1 Certificate, Food Safety & Hygiene in Catering.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Flexible to support long shifts during busy periods.
  • Able to interact appropriately with other staff and departments.
