Job Description

This position requires a highly experienced writer in marketing communications development. This person is responsible for developing an intimate understanding of the market, products, and solutions in order to write and edit all messaging and content related to the marketing communications and campaigns for those accounts. This person should have the knowledge and experience to be able to research and write full websites, e-mails, and other online media.

The Content Writer will also provide insights and recommendations that can improve content at the core of the client's customer experience. He or she should possess a deep understanding of best practices for content creation and content management, taxonomy, content authoring workflows and should understand content governance and the value of user input. Ideally, this individual should have an in-depth understanding of content creation and the ability to understand complex scientific (Life Science) content. The Content Writer will oversee content requirements and support the creation of content strategy deliverables across a project life cycle. This may include conducting content audits as well as gap analyses. He or she will also create and contribute to content migration plans as needed.
The Content Writer is a high-level thinker with a penchant for keeping track of details. This person must be an idea generator and problem solver with excellent communication and organizational skills. He or she must possess the analytical abilities necessary to gather key business and user insights, and apply strategic planning skills to create a long-term vision for the content that's generated.
Essential Functions

The Content Writer will work closely with the Strategy, Account and Editorial teams in brief development at the campaign, program, and project level. He or she will also be involved in ongoing research, which will enable him/her to develop compelling content for professional or consumer audiences.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Responsible for creation of core message development related to key marketing campaigns (i.e. Theme, Value Proposition, Core Content elements)
  • Involved in concept and idea generation in collaboration with design teams
  • Provide accurate and thorough reference information for written materials per AMA guidelines
  • Research, write, and revise content to be used in communications assets including Web sites, online advertising, e-mails, social media, promotional materials, brochures, and interactive content
  • Produce scripts in concert with in-house editors and proofreaders that meet or exceed client standards
  • Develop high quality content for interactive media within branding standards
  • Ensure adherence to compliance and regulatory issues
  • Collaborate with team to ensure quality and timeliness of material
  • Provide guidance, approval, and life-cycle management of content and message across all assets related to key marketing campaigns and communication assets
  • Assess existing client content to identify strengths, weaknesses, gaps and inconsistencies, as well as opportunities
  • Provide thought leadership on content creation objective and promotional messaging best practices
  • Outline content maintenance processes and gain maintenance stakeholder buy-in.
  • Perform content audits and make recommendations for future enhancements
  • Create and maintain editorial calendars
  • Define standards for the content lifecycle and framework
  • Develop content requirements, including structured content, reuse opportunities, and adaptive content recommendations

Required Skills and Experience
The objective of this role is to combine subject matter expertise with marketing, content strategy and messaging knowledge to develop go-to-market copy that will generate response and interest.

Must have recent experience in marketing (preferably in the healthcare or pharmaceutical space), and creative copywriting skills, as well as:

  • Demonstrated experience developing concepts and brainstorming independently or as part of a team
  • Must possess journalistic and interviewing skills
  • Experience planning and facilitating discovery workshops
  • Proven ability to write for healthcare professionals and healthcare consumers
  • Digital and pharmaceutical content aptitude required
  • Demonstrated medical writing experience and aptitude
  • Working knowledge of Web/interactive design and graphic tools and processes
  • Should possess a deep understanding of best practices for content creation and content management and the value of user input
  • Proven ability to conduct content audits and inventories (qualitative and quantitative) to identify current content and future content needs; mapping content to new site architecture and identifying content gaps
  • Must be self-motivated and an analytical problem solver
  • Must have excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills as well as strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Experience in marketing, message development, lead-generating content development best practices, and overall mass-marketing and direct-marketing best practices
  • Background in healthcare, pharmaceutical marketing experience and a strong technical understanding of the digital pharmaceutical market
