Communications Manager - Risk, Legal & Compliance

Role Context

The Risk and Compliance Communications Manager role exists in the Risk, Legal and Compliance Integration Programme to support Risk and Compliance and Legal or Company Secretariat (CoSec) related activity for the integration of Standard Life Investments and Aberdeen Asset Management. The overall programme is expected to last for 2 years. This role is initially for 6 months. A review of the requirement for subsequent months and years will take place in June of 2018.

Role Purpose

This role is specifically focused on Communications and Engagement required for the Risk, Legal and Compliance integration programme and for Legal or Risk and Compliance involvement in wider business integration programmes. Broadly the role will be to plan, co-ordinate and manage all of the extensive internal Legal or R&C team communications and wider business R&C related communications required for integration activity requiring Legal or R&C support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an integrated communications strategy for the Risk, Legal and Compliance Integration Programme, aligned to corporate and other business areas communications plans
  • Engage key stakeholders to design effective communications plans to deliver key messages required to support both integration activity and colleague engagement
  • Design and implement communications plans to share key information on integration activities and build feedback channels for ongoing colleague support and engagement
  • Design innovative, informative and engaging communications / interventions and engagement activities to achieve desired outcomes
  • Develop relationships with internal media team to enable and align plans for utilising internal communications channels
  • Create Plan, co-ordinate and manage all of the internal Legal, CoSec or Risk & Compliance team communications needed to support integration
  • Plan, co-ordinate and manage all of the business wide Legal/CoSec/Risk and Compliance related communications needed to support wider business integration
  • Produce risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies log for the communications plan and track changes
  • Regularly report on communications activity, to feed into overall Risk, Legal & Compliance Integration Programme SteerCo.
  • Oversee the expenditure against allocated communications budget and ensure its use is fully maximised
  • Liaise and work closely with the R&C Integration Programme team and Senior sponsors

Key Outcomes

  • Successful delivery of key messages and realisation of desired outcomes for communications and knowledge management to support Legal, CoSec or Risk and Compliance integration related activity and team collaboration (which will then contribute to synergy savings)

Skills & Experience

  • Expert knowledge of managing communications and engagement strategy, plans and implementation through multiple channels to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of designing and implementing innovative and engaging communications and interventions to encourage collaboration, raise levels of engagement, deliver key messages and achieve desired business outcomes
  • Ability to operate comfortably and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Oversight of major communications campaigns with a track record of achieving the target goals
  • Experience of leading deadline driven communications projects to support business change

Essential:

  • Extensive Communications Management experience, focused on business change programmes
  • Highly articulate individual with excellent written communications and presentation skills are essential Strong stakeholder management experience
  • Extensive experience and skills using multimedia communications channels
  • Strong event management and facilitation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Previous activities relating to risk, legal or compliance, or a combination
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Asset Management, ideally Aberdeen and/or Standard Life
  • Some understanding of Legal and/or Risk and Compliance and experience of supporting Risk, Legal or Compliance projects useful
  • Previous Risk and Compliance management experience useful
  • Knowledge of Asset Management preferred
