I recruit for a FTSE 100 Organisation who offers Engineering Support Services to the Royal Navy. Due to expanding growth they are currently recruiting experienced CNC Setters/Operators to set and operate new medium and large CNC 5 axis vertical turning and travelling column horizontal machining centres to support to live and developing projects.

The purpose of this role is to deliver machined components on time and to the correct tolerances on large CNC turning and milling machine tools. You will also be responsible for looking after tooling, general housekeeping and HSE both at the machines and the overall workshop.


  • Set up jobs on machines and establish datum's, pre-set and load all tooling and CNC programs.
  • Liaise with CNC Production Engineering team to analyse and develop the best approach, planning and proving out of project specific programs.
  • Understand and work to customer drawings and specifications with the minimum of supervision following training.
  • Proving out of CNC programs on machines ensuring the highest quality is maintained at all times.
  • Supporting the CNC Production Engineering team, identify and develop the best cutting technology to improve the machining quality, capability and cycle time reduction.
  • Support the CNC engineering team to troubleshoot faults / errors on CNC programs and define correct cutting conditions.
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement programs including 5S.
  • Take a responsible approach to Health, Safety and Environmental risks in relation to job role and control the risks or report them to management as appropriate.

Required Competencies

  • High / Low volume production within a medium or heavy engineering environment, as a CNC Programmer, Setter, Operator.
  • Must be able to demonstrate 3 or 5-axis CNC programming capability.
  • Experience of proving and implementing CNC processes and procedures.
  • HNC / C&G equivalent supporting qualification with a recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical or manufacturing discipline.
  • Team player and accountable and responsible for his/her own performance.
  • Experience of working in Imperial (inches) is highly desirable.
