Chief of Staff - Croydon

£52,000 - £62,000 + excellent pension, flexible working etc

We have an opportunity with one of our major government clients based in Croydon. They are one of the leading departments who are responsible for keeping our country safe and look after various areas including the Police, Counter-Terrorism, Immigration etc.

They are seeking a Chief of Staff to support the Director of the Immigration Technology Portfolio in leading their team based in Croydon. You will manage the workflow through the office to ensure that objectives are met and that the Director and senior team members are informed, prepared for and involved in key meetings and items at the appropriate level and time.

The work is exciting, high profile, and, if successful, will give you the opportunity to make an impact on the future immigration system and develop relationships with senior leads across the government department.

Role responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a high level overview of the Portfolio and the throughput of the office, ensuring work is completed to the right timeframe and quality.
  • Horizon-scanning, anticipating what advice or action may be required; proactively identifying problems and resolving them.
  • Planning the Director's internal communications and external stakeholder engagement and providing strategic advice on Portfolio matters on behalf of the Director where appropriate.
  • Producing and quality assuring briefings, submissions and other papers, challenging where appropriate, to ensure necessary clearance can be obtained promptly to meet tight deadlines.
  • Supporting the Director in leading their teams, handling key corporate and people matters and promoting a collaborative and effective working culture.
  • Undertaking ad hoc activities on behalf of the Director etc

Skills required

  • Background providing support to director level ensuring the director is well sighted on emerging issues
  • Experience proactively identifying problems and resolving them
  • Planning the directors internal communications
  • Previous day to day engagement with Programme Managers and Delivery Leads
  • Planning external stakeholder engagement
  • Ability to provide strategic advice on behalf of director
  • Supporting director in managing team
  • Assisting the director in managing complex relations
  • Previous experience managing diary manager
