Category Sourcing Lead

Up to £60,000 + Benefits

We are looking to recruit a Category Sourcing Lead to work for the UKs leading Engineering and Support Services organisation ideally based from regional headquarters in Bristol, however base location is not critical.

The organisation delivering complex through-life engineering services, technology, equipment, consultancy and training through unique owned and managed infrastructure to global defence and civil customers.

Reporting to the Head of Category Management Marine Sector, the Subcategory Lead will have responsibility for category leadership, including strategy definition and execution across Projects and Business Units within the organisation's Marine Division and, where relevant, across the Group.

Objectives for this role will include:

  • Establishing Project and Business Unit requirements, including those driven by the future bid pipeline
  • Supporting business growth teams to design and engage supply chains to deliver supply solutions that meet future requirements
  • Delivering tangible, bottom-line benefits to the Division resulting from pan-Business Unit category management of Spend
  • Supporting the delivery of Business Unit strategies through the appropriate application of supplier relationship management and the provision of category subject matter expertise in Engineered Systems
  • Define category strategies that maximise value for the business based on understanding of business needs and supply market potential
  • Builds deep knowledge of the supply market within the business
  • Execution of the category strategy, including negotiating and contracting with suppliers, evaluating on-going contract and supplier performance and measuring contract compliance
  • Working within legacy programme or New Product Introduction environments
  • Where appropriate, supports major bid activity where there is a significant category requirement
  • Segmenting and managing suppliers within the category
  • Executing the appropriate strategies to incentivise and engage suppliers and to measure and incentivise their performance

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent
  • MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications
  • Engineering background favourable
  • Experienced procurement practitioner with knowledge of current strategic procurement techniques
  • Experience in category leadership
  • Subject matter expertise in an engineering and manufacturing environment, particularly design -build collaboration and subcontracting
  • Experience working in project environments at both bidding and delivery phases of lifecycle
  • Proven track record of identifying and delivering value Business Skills & Knowledge
  • High quality communication ability, both written and orally
  • Highly commercial, with a proven ability to use procurement to unlock value for the business
  • Delivery focused with a pragmatic, hands-on approach that enables strategies to be fully executed
