Location: Open - Bristol / Plymouth / Portsmouth

Overall Department Direction

Reporting to the Head of Category Manager the Category Lead will have responsibility for category strategy execution across Projects and Business Sectors within Babcock International Group. Objectives for this role will include:

  • Establishing Project and Business Unit / Sector requirements, including those driven by the future bid pipeline
  • Supporting business growth teams to design and engage supply chains that meet future requirements
  • Delivering tangible, bottom-line benefits to the business resulting from pan-Business Unit / Sector category management of Spend
  • Supporting the delivery of Business Unit and sector strategies through the rigorous management of contract and supplier performance

The Category Lead will have responsibility for c. £20 - 50M expenditure across specific categories of spend.

Main Purpose of Role

Category Management

  • Manages category strategies that maximise value for the business based on understanding of business needs and supply market potential
  • Builds deep knowledge of the supply market within the business
  • Execution of the category strategy, including negotiating and contracting with suppliers, evaluating on-going contract and supplier performance and measuring contract compliance

Sourcing

  • Captures specific business requirements and builds into ITT or RFx documents
  • Executes pan BU & Sector sourcing activity using strategic sourcing methodologies in order to put fit-for-purpose supply contracts in place
  • Accountable for the implementation of pan-divisional contracts so that they can be used in practice by the business units
  • Where appropriate, supports major bid activity where there is a significant category requirement

Supply Management

  • Segmenting and managing suppliers within the category
  • Executing the appropriate strategies to incentivise and engage suppliers and to measure and incentivise their performance
  • Managing appropriate supplier governance, fed by relevant data and attended by empowered representatives of both organisations

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

  • Value delivery in line with agreed targets for the category
  • Supplier performance that meets operational requirements of the Business Units
  • Ensuring a strong health, safety and environmental ethos is applied throughout the supply chain;
  • Excellent cross functional stakeholder relationships

Qualifications include:

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent
  • MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications

Experience & Background

  • Experienced procurement practitioner with knowledge of current strategic procurement techniques and (c. 5 Years in Sourcing & Procurement)
  • Knowledge of relevant categories
  • Experience working in project environments at both biding and delivery phases of lifecycle
  • Proven track record of identifying and delivering procurement savings
