Overall Purpose of the Job

This investment is targeted at growing QinetiQ and aims to ensure that we have the leadership in place that can deliver the winning solutions that our customers need. In this Business Development Manager role we are looking for driven, capable business development professionals with a proven ability to deliver a portfolio of contracts to develop and win business in the Land and Weapons Science & Technology Integrated delivery team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Identification and development of new business propositions
  • Achievement of specific sales targets, typically up to £5M.
  • Occasional briefing on the account or business stream at up to Maritime, Land and Weapons (MLW) leadership level
  • Collaborative working with wider sales teams and IDTs to support and manage pan-QinetiQ initiatives
  • Ensures that their own performance positively impacts the performance of the wider sales and delivery teams
  • Management of internal and external stakeholders
  • Development and delivery of the sales pipeline
  • Ensuring accurate and timely forecasting.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrable knowledge of sales techniques in a business -to-business and business to government area
  • Ability to form and lead cross functional teams
  • Collaborative approach working across business boundaries
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of being able to influence
  • A self-starter to take opportunities from conception through to closure
  • Knowledge of other functional disciplines related to selling (e.g. finance and commercial)
  • Skilled at developing effective revenue pipelines and strategies to achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets
  • Exposure to working within a matrix environment
  • Strong commercial focus and acumen underpinned by broad, innovative thinking
  • Degree educated (ideally Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths) or equivalent commercial experience
  • Knowledge of the Land and weapons science and technology domain
  • A background within the research, defence, aerospace, technology or Information security markets is desirable, although highly credible candidates from other sectors are encouraged.
  • Experience working with international customers
