Department & Team Overview

This role works in the Communications Team in the Sales & Marketing Group. The team looks after the strategy and management of Sky's communication products, including broadband, fixed line telephony and mobile. The Communications Team looks after brand campaign development, proposition, product management, sales and marketing. We have seen phenomenal growth in broadband since launch in 2006 and are now the second largest ISP in the UK.

Within this, the role of the brand team is to develop impactful, creative campaigns and be guardians of the communications brand within Sky. It's fun. Over the last few years we have worked with some exciting franchises and have driven some real cut through advertising. The planning team are a key part of this process. The team have responsibility for headroom & targeting, working on the GTM strategy and representing the Communications Team in the planning process at Sky.

Job Purpose/Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Planning, the Senior Planning Manager will be responsible for

Role:

  • Support the Head of Planning in the development of the long term Brand Plans, including key areas such as GTM strategies and driving Share of Voice.
  • Campaign Planning: Take a lead role in planning the development of individual campaigns across our broadband, telephony and mobile propositions. Working alongside the Head of Planning help shape the customer and market insight; create motivating propositions and translate into core messaging. Further work cross-functionally with trading and commercial stakeholders to define KPIs (including sales) plus support the development of the campaign offer strategy. Ensure campaign strategies pass internal approval milestones, socialise with senior stakeholders and provide ongoing campaign strategy support to the rest of the brand team as the campaign evolves from strategy to execution.
  • Planning Co-ordination: Take the lead in creating a strong cross-team multi-stakeholder communication network with the Commercial (Propositions), Trading, Insight, Brand Media and Finance teams to debate an develop key inputs such as product proposition, software strategy and messaging alignment for our quarterly and campaign strategies. Also, work closely to co-ordinate input from the Brand and Trading teams to ensure we have a full 360 view of all of our comms related marketing activity.
  • Target Audience Definition & Insight: Work collaboratively with the propositions team to help define and structure headroom opportunity, identify key target segments and socialise insights within annual, quarterly and campaign planning processes
  • Market Insight: Maintain a good view on the competitor landscape with particular emphasis on their messaging and key GTM strategies
  • Media Planning: Work with Mediacom to plan the long term campaign calendar and priorities, supporting the brand team with in-quarter support as required
  • Measurement & Evaluation: Work alongside Commercial and Insight teams to define and develop campaign tracking to measure and evaluate success against KPIs including awareness, ITP and brand perceptions
  • Best practice: Look at ways in which campaigns are planned and input improvements into the process as required. And ensure relationships with key counterparts within Sky are natured to establish and drive best practice.

Sample Projects/Activities:

  • Working alongside the Head of Planning, help to create a campaign strategy for Sky Broadband, taking a lead role in individual elements of the process from defining targets & KPIs, developing audience insight, proposition and messaging and socialising through the business.
  • Develop a segmentation strategy that effectively allows us to communicate to our key headroom segments, helping shape key GTM strategies accordingly

Specialist Knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience of working across integrated channel activity
  • Ability to develop a strategic approach bringing together
  • Proven experience of planning complex marketing campaigns
  • Managing multiple stakeholders in complex matrix organisations
  • Experience of working within data rich environments. Comfortable in reviewing and analysing data and making recommendations accordingly
  • Experienced in helping plan integrated media plans and measuring their performance.
  • Experience of working with agencies or third party suppliers
  • Able to manage & influence internal & external stakeholders across a number of different levels
  • Experienced measuring marketing performance and establishing key KPI's
