BI Business Analyst

General Responsibilities:

This role is to join an emerging Business Intelligence team and work alongside them at the start of building out a Data Governance project. You will be analysing current key data flows and documenting to build a data asset for our website's future Business Intelligence programmes.

The initial part of this role is to perform a technical role within a business setting, deep diving to document key business data and its flows around the various systems within the current system.

There is an opportunity for the right candidate to help to inform and be part of a new and emerging BI data governance strategy.

The Business Analyst will liaise with various teams across the business, from Marketing to the BI team as well as the technical live site and data warehouse team, where appropriate, identifying key owners and document knowledge for existing key data sets and possibly some new ones.

The Business Analyst will be working directly the BI Product Owners and Senior Manager to understand the priority and requirements of the data needed. You will also be responsible for ensuring that daily status reporting is provided, escalating issues and blockers - owning through to resolution.

Role Deliverables:

  • You will deliver a fully documented set of data flow diagrams which will identify sources, data flows, data types and business friendly descriptions of usage for a defined key data set
  • You will document current workflow specifications and use cases in such a way that they are easy to use and reference You will also identify areas of opportunity for streamlining data flows and processes

Role responsibilities:

Responsible for identifying and documenting data flows and any data quality issues identified

You will be expected to own and run Data Discovery tasks, which will involve analysis of existing workflows across a number of platforms, systems (SQL server, DB2, external 3rd party) and departments.

Key Skills:

  • Advanced SQL Experience Working knowledge of Business Objects and/or other BI tools
  • Technical and commercial experience of RDBMS Applied experience and involvement of data governance in a mid-size organization
  • Applied knowledge of Web Analytics preferable Knowledge of online Marketing and advantage
  • A BA/BS degree in Information Systems or related technical discipline would be preferable

  • Good communicator - able to work with business and technical people; to explain and document complex data flows in an accessible way
