Role: QA Tester

Location: Telford

Duration: 3-6 Months

Essential Criteria:

  • Typically will work on a project where there will be a degree of complexity (e.g. complex integration), strategic importance
  • A proactive, self-managed individual with excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively within agile ceremonies and the wider team to build collaborative working relationships.

Has extensive testing experience of the following:

  • Automation, specifically extensive experience in Java development with an ability to write high quality code and effectively analyse/resolve code related issues.
  • Ability to follow best practice in Continuous Integration, including configuring Jenkins, GIT to ensure early identification and resolution of build issues.
  • Using BDD to bring the business closer to the features being tested, specifically using a Cucumber Selenium Java JVM framework.
  • Performance testing of web applications with Jmeter. Testing the current business requirement by running Load, Stress and Soak tests against the application and identifying weak points in the system
  • Security/PEN testing to, as a minimum, OWASP Top 10. Should have the understanding of each of these to fully test using tools such as Zap, Burp Suite and manual testing.
  • Accessibility - Automated and manual to WCAG 2 conformance with user testing of Zoom, Screen readers, speech technology and general understanding of WAI ARIA (across mobile and desktop devices.
  • Compatibility testing - Cross Browser testing to minimum of GDS standards. This will include testing using emulators and real devices.
  • A good understanding of the 3 amigos concept to drive out detailed acceptance criteria that satisfies the needs of the user, which ultimately should improve quality.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within agile teams
  • Positive, can do attitude, focussed on delivery and driven to overcome problems or challenges
  • Contribute to the Test Community
  • Present on initiatives to share best practice and actively seek to improve consistency of approach and compliance with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards.
  • Actively network within DWP to share approach, take ideas and input from others, and to support others in their work delivery
  • Contribute to DWP Test Community meetings and events
  • Participate in engagement with local Academy programmes to encourage inclusion of Testing content within Academy content and offer a local contact for academy trainers and attendees when Testing questions arise.

Key requirements for Activation QA Tester are:

  • Able to work in an agile team
  • Understands Scrum and can contribute on that basis
  • Develop automated tests using Cucumber Selenium Java JVM framework (BDD, ADD based tests), Java 8, and ideally Spring framework
  • Used to delivering and contributing to the creation and refinement of User Stories as this is a major part of how the project is structured
  • Can bring a Test perspective
  • Has previous demonstrable experience of automating tests end-to-end
  • Understands data requirements/data population and how they fit into and can be delivered with automated tests, ideally has experience of data population involving MongoDB
  • Has experience of using Git version control system and good practices in this area
  • Has experience of configuring CI jobs on Jenkins and can contribute to any additional set-up in this area that is required to run automated tests - e.g. Selenium drivers other test tooling
