This global organisation in the engineering training sector are looking to hire an Assistant Project Accountant to work within their finance team based at HMS Collingwood, Portsmouth

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support and accurately report on the financial performance of a large training contract for the Royal Navy, working with various stakeholders, to drive maximum profitability and efficiency.

About your new role

Key duties will include:

  • Prepare and collate information required for customer review
  • Preparation of contract estimated actual costs of completion (EAC's)
  • Preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations for all relevant contracts
  • Presentation of financial information for management accounts, forecasts, budgets
  • Preparation of customer billing and associated Billing Plans
  • Monthly reconciliation of order book for relevant contracts
  • Assist preparation and collation of financial information for contract review documents, and presentation of information at these monthly reviews, addressing outputs (e.g. risk register changes) as part of contract financial models
  • To manage detailed financial models for relevant contract, updating for budget & forecast processes, including balance sheet assumptions, and ensuring the financial integrity of these models
  • To provide financial input into the month end process for each relevant contract
  • Provide detailed variance analysis for contract movements, including variances against budget, forecast and monthly fluctuations
  • Provide second line support for contact with customer and contract manager where financial queries arise (including internal customers, e.g. Group Reporting or Transactions teams)
  • Provide second line support for internal and external auditors in their review of contract performance and associated data

About you

  • Part-qualified ACCA/ACA/CIMA
  • Degree qualified in related business or finance discipline
  • Experience of Accounting systems and financial reporting tools (SAP highly desirable)
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills essential (e.g. V-lookup, Pivot tables etc.)
  • Ability to ensure deadlines and targets are achieved or surpassed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
