A brand new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Chief Engineer to join the largest support services UK organisation based in Keynsham, near Bristol, delivering on a new generation of submarine to carry the UK's Nuclear Deterrent, the Dreadnought Programme.

Responsible for providing governance across all Engineering and technical activities within a defined market sector, ensuring technical capability and capacity meets the current and future operational and strategic demand.

Responsible for delivery to the Project/Programme lead, and is accountable to the Functional Lead for ensuring engineering governance is applied across the Project/Programme and people, processes and systems are developed with consistency across the Business. The role fosters, maintains and is accountable for ensuring application of highest levels of professional standards, quality & ethics across relevant to the task.

The role requires deep professional expertise, knowledge and experience relevant to the task. An Assistant Chief Engineer should be a Chartered Engineer and Member of relevant Institute, have a engineering degree or qualification in relevant engineering discipline, substantial demonstrable competence post degree / qualification covering a range of engineering and/or technical topics and demonstrate management experience.

Key elements of the post are:

  • Ensure application of highest standards for health and safety in immediate area of responsibility and ensure all team members across engineering co-operate with respect to company standards with regard to matters on health, safety and environment, ethics and behaviours.
  • Act as the Design / Technical Authority, on Projects within a defined remit of sufficient scale and/or complexity
  • Ensure the technical integrity and quality of products and services provided within the area of responsibility.
  • Plan, lead and control engineering processes and activities to ensure delivery to agreed programme and budget.
  • Foster links and maintain good working relationships within the technical teams Customer community and industry to enable effective use of Business capability
  • Support the identification & implementation of improved engineering business processes that enhance group capabilities.
  • Take a lead role in the review, maintenance and upkeep of quality assurance documentation
  • Provide specialist engineering advice in area of technical or operational expertise

Successful candidate requirements:

  • Professional expertise, knowledge and experience
  • Chartered Engineer and Member of relevant Institute
  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline
  • Substantial demonstrable competence post degree / qualification covering a range of engineering and/or technical topics and demonstrate management experience.
