Our client is seeking an Accessibility UX Researcher to join our global design team.

Our growing team spans between countries and consists of designer researchers, designers and front-end developers. This is a hands-on role where you will bring your creative, analytical and problem-solving skills to translate concepts, user needs and insights into solid recommendations and guidelines.

A core part of this role will be ensuring that our Brand, websites and applications are accessible to all people regardless of ability, and compliant with ADA guidelines/WCAG 2.0 AA. This will require raising general awareness around accessibility and educating teams on design and technical implications. In addition, you will conduct general customer research, usability tests and gather feedback to improve the ease of use of various aspects of our products across platforms. You will seek to involve the end user in your designs as well as liaising with the business owners and technology partners. You will be responsible for ensuring the digital designs from the team are compliant to our business' brand and accessible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive usability and accessibility testing with assistance against the WCAG 2.0 (AA) Success Criteria and the updated Section 508 federal requirements using the following methodologies: visual analysis; screen reader reviews; color sampling; keyboard only; gesture only; and code reviews.
  • Facilitate and observe research sessions, take notes, analyze data collected through qualitative and quantitative methods, and map findings to research goals.
  • Define and produce accessibility guidelines templates, visual asset and pattern libraries.
  • Work closely with other researchers, product developers, designers, engineers, and partners located globally to plan and execute research studies.
  • Document and communicate research studies, including accessibility research to a wide audience.
  • Provide implementation directions and requirements for UX Design and Front End Development teams.
  • Work with engineers to incorporate accessible features in web and mobile applications using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years minimum of expertise in user experience research and digital accessibility.
  • BA/BS in information science, information design, computer science, human computer interaction (HCI), instructional design, quality assurance, learning technology, assistive technology, related field or equivalent industry training / experience.
  • Knowledge of Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and specifications, minimally must be fluent in WCAG 2.0 guidelines. Helpful to know WAI-ARIA, UAAG, and ATAG specifications.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility-related software including JAWS®, NVDA, VoiceOver, Window-Eyes, ZoomText, MAGic®, Dragon® NaturallySpeaking or other speech recognition software.
  • Knowledge of how to improve and remediate accessibility using web-based technology including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • 3+ years working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative development environment with experience in large, complex software or web applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively both with diverse teams and independently.
  • Ability to work with engineering teams to execute best design solutions within technology constraints

  • General understanding of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
