
Our client is a major Broadcasting company seeking a Systems Administrator based in London for an initial 3 month contract. This role involves the development and operational support of software systems that provide services such as backend systems to support iPad and iPhone apps, mobile optimized websites, feed management and smoothing, content management, broadcast scheduling & play-out for applications.
These systems will range from bespoke single purpose applications with simple web based interfaces to large scale multi-tier infrastructure pieces that provide core services to multiple applications. As such, the involvement of systems administration is stretched throughout the lifecycle of the projects and works with the teams to strongly influence deployment / monitoring decisions and component reuse.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who possesses excellent technical skills and can demonstrate a appreciation of systems administration allied to a full understating of the work of developers and operations teams.
Key responsibilities:
·Administration of enterprise level systems for the Interactive and Mobile Platform
·Technical responsibility for ensuring that the platform grows in a manageable way as the number of projects using it rises.
·Active contribution towards key design decisions and detailed design of the architecture of each new project.
·Prepared to participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from initial analysis & design to implementation and post launch operational support.
·An appreciation of new technologies and their use in innovative teams.
·Effective communication with fellow software engineers, the project team, management and various levels of the business to ensure the effective delivery and integration of these systems
·Provide 3rd line support for incidents relating to the Platform
Key Experience and Attributes
The successful candidate will have a proven track record with at least 3 years relevant commercial experience including the following key skills:
Technical
·3+ years commercial experience of administering Linux based operating systems.
·Experience of kick-start build process using RHEL, CentOS and SL
·Competent shell scripting development experience.
·Build/experience of Nagios/Opsview plug-ins and Opsview administration including NRPE and NSCA plug-ins.
·Experience of performance tuning and administering Tomcat, Jboss and other J2EE containers would be desirable.
·Experience of deploying/configuring Nginx and Apache web servers for high load platforms
·Proactive and keen to demonstrate sound automation concepts for building and further enhancing an existing platform of 150+ nodes
·Experience with MySQL administration and performance tuning desirable.
·Previous experience of building and maintaining high demand web platforms utilizing open source software
·Some Windows administration, including automated deployment, patch management, domain management.
·Virtual platform technology experience expected.
