
Perl Developer (Internet Service platform development)
Our leading broadband and talk industry client is looking for a Perl Developer (Internet Service platform development) to join their team and work as a developer within the Internet Service Platform team. Assist in development of Internet Service applications (Radius, LDAP, DNS, DHCP) and the deployment platforms they use (especially Linux).
Job responsibilities -
Develop systems to improve our client's broadband platform.
Develop test harnesses for our application stack with the ability to build and extend our testing platform.
Review hardware and software platform capabilities. Work with 3rd parties and internal departments to deliver the required solution either by developing a custom system, or by buying and enhancing 3rd party technology.
Provide 3
rd / 4th line support to the Operations department for systems which have been deployed and are live. Provide 1st line escalation support whilst the systems are in-development and being deployed. Ensure that platforms are kept up to date with the latest 3rd party updates and patches.
Provide documentation to internal and external departments as required.
Candidates should also have hands on experience of the following
LANGUAGE REQUIRED
1. Perl v. important - This candidate needs to be an expert in this language and it should be their primary language
2. So Perl/C/C++ or OO with Perl - Ideally all of these
3. Candidates should have used C to compile/create packages for a Linux distribution ideally a debian based one - You could just ask candidates when and where they did/used this
Candidate should also be familiar with Multithreading techniques
OTHER TECHNOLOGIES
If candidates have good programming skills with database experience that will be beneficial
Required databases will be MYSQL/Preferred (ie SQL) / Oracle experience
OTHER
Candidates should be familiar with networking protocols and should be able to set up a server to run a network for the following;
DHCP
DNS
RADIUS(IDEALLY)
LDAP - MUST
Knowledge of routing protocols eg. OSPF/RIP (Routing info Protocol), understanding of firewalls and troubleshooting skills will also be beneficial
Also, candidates need to be self-reliant and get things done for themselves instead of over dependency on other people
This role is an initial 3 month contract but with potential for extension due to the on-going work.
The role will be based at our client's Braham Street office in Aldgate.
