The Individual:
My client are looking for an experienced Linux Infrastructure engineer to join their team based in Cambridge. They are looking for a enthusiastic engineer who has good commercial experience but is also keen to learn new skills. You must take a real interest in technology outside of work and have a genuine interest in improving the companies IT Infrastructure.
The role:
With the expansion of compute services to local and overseas engineering groups my client now seek a network support engineer to maintain the systems that run these services. Installing new hardware and help with maintenance of Windows desktops is a minor part of this role.
The successful candidate will have several years of experience managing Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment.
Typical daily tasks include:
- Proactively manage Linux servers
- Support client applications on Windows servers
- Network infrastructure maintenance
- Enhance and create new automated procedures
- Planning improvements and new services
- Second line support for the engineering teams
Essential skills and experience:
- Linux operating systems with Debian, Ubuntu, RedHat or CentOS
- NFS and Samba file services
- Networking basics: DHCP, DNS, NIS, NTP, SSH
- POSIX shell, Python/bash scripting
- Desktop security management
Desirable experience:
- LSF, SLURM, Torque cluster management
- KVM, VMware, VirtualBox, LXC virtualization
- Support for EDA tools, Cadence, Synopsys
- Experience with Windows servers (2003/2008)
- Perforce version control
- Email servers
- Other network services: VoIP, VPN, firewalls, proxies
- NAS and SAN systems
