Junior/ Graduate Materials Engineer (Metallic and Non-metallic materials or structural materials, adhesives, coatings, insulators or corrosion protection) within the Materials Engineering team within Electronics Design is responsible for guiding the business on the best materials and consumables that meet both customer & legislative requirements.
The Junior/ Graduate Materials Engineer (Metallic and Non-metallic materials or structural materials, adhesives, coatings, insulators or corrosion protection) is responsible for the selection and suitability for use. Through test, analysis and evaluation of data they will qualify materials and approve it based on quality, reliability, standardization and assurance of continued availability.
Essential Responsibilities:
*Assisting product teams in selecting the most appropriate metallic and non-metallic materials (e.g. Structural materials, adhesives, coatings, insulators and corrosion protection) for new products
*Advising on the appropriate methods of deploying materials in production processes
*Minimize obsolescence through manufacturer's research and lifecycle analysis
*Identifying replacements for obsolescent materials in existing products
*Understanding the effect of the current and future materials and chemical legislation on our products and processes
*Auditing new and existing products for compliance with legislation and customer materials requirements
*Follow parts through test, verification and up to qualification enabling approval for use
*Ensure the qualification data is accurate, complete and performance test data is reviewed
*Maintaining and developing a library of design and production standards documents
*Extract technical attributes from manufacturer's data to create component database record
*Input data into the company database, business and parametric information
*Prepare new records or drawings and release
Qualifications/Requirements:
*A degree in materials science or substantial experience in this field is essential or similar level of knowledge and experience.
*Experience of selecting materials for industrial products and developing production processes is key to this role.
*Must have an understanding of current materials legislation (e.g. WEEE, Reach etc.)
*Commercial awareness and awareness of market availability of materials

*Strong oral and written communication skills
