A Leading Insurance Organisation requires a Business Analyst for an initial 6 month contract based in Lytham.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Work pro-actively with business representatives, other analysts, technical consultants and subject matter experts to:

- capture and document detailed business requirements

- support the preparation of estimates based on system impacts of business requirements

- identify and progress any synergies across multi-functional projects, programmes & releases

- tailor business requirements to provide best fit with system(s) functionality

- translate business requirements into detailed system requirements, functional specifications and technical design specifications

- ensure common understanding and quality of deliverables by consultation and review

- ensure consistent design across affected systems

- ensure that any proposed system solutions adhere to IT Architecture standards

- review supplier deliverables to ensure quality of deliverables and compliance with detailed system requirements and functional specifications

- Under the guidance of the Test Team Manager, support production of (or produce) test plans, test conditions, test scripts, and support running of unit, system, integrated system and user acceptance tests

  • Perform appropriate subset of the above for analysis and resolution of production support problems and system change requests
  • Perform quality reviews on deliverables produced by colleagues and third parties
  • Continuously review experience, capture the learning points and make recommendations for process improvement
  • Prepare and deliver presentation / demonstration material as required
  • Carry out research and analysis without the need for supervision
  • Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues

Skills/Experience Required:

  1. Previous experience and relevant systems analysis required
  2. Experience supported by ISEB qualification or IS related degree preferable
  3. Knowledge of development lifecycles and strong experience of initial stages of lifecycles (e.g. high level requirements / functional design)
  4. Some knowledge of specific application(s) or sub components
  5. Ability to demonstrate strong customer focus and communicate in business language
  6. Experience of working with business customers and technical delivery resources (including 3rd party suppliers)
  7. Facilitation, communication, listening and presentation skills appropriate to area of expertise
  8. Commercial awareness
  9. Ability to generate and evaluate work estimates
  10. Good decision making skills
  11. Able to influence peers within IT and the business
  12. Ability to monitor progress against project plans
  13. Able to perform as a senior systems analyst supporting (the equivalent of) a key component of a major core application for a large development project.
  14. Good knowledge of a key component of the application(s) and its interfaces, and understanding of the associated business processes for the domain of expertise.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Awareness of financial services products and regulatory framework (FSA etc)
  • Awareness of the functionality of leading application technology packages, preferably in the Financial Services industry: Product Engines, Customer Relationship Management, Financial and Commission Management, Data Warehousing, Image and Workflow
  • Appreciation of business practices, approaches and processes
