Top Secret Recruiting

GCHQ, the UK's code-breaking and hacking capital, is looking to recruit a new generation of spies and has come up with a unique way of doing it.

The security service has set up a no-frills website at www.canyoucrackit.co.uk containing little more than a cryptic code with an apparently random grid of 160 pairs of letters and numbers, plus a "Time Remaining" countdown.  Applicants interested in working for GCHQ have until midnight on December 12th to try and crack the code.

Canyoucrackit.co.uk has no obvious connection to GCHQ, but a viral campaign across Facebook and Twitter is directing would-be spies to the site.  Players who manage to crack the code are then directed to the website of GCHQ and invited to apply for a job.

The spy centre apparently wants to hire around 35 spies, and is looking for expert code-breaking skills, knowledge of rare languages and other unusual talents.

Whether applicants should prefer their Martinis shaken or stirred is not mentioned...
