A Streamlined Recruitment Model Delivering Military Precision

Background
Our client is a leading producer of commercial and military jet engines, as well as aircraft components, avionics, electric power and mechanical systems.   Contractors made up about 40% of our client’s total workforce, exposing their business to high recruitment costs and vulnerability to co-employment risk, (where employers become liable for taxes of employment benefits for their contract staff).  Further, with no set recruitment processes in place, candidate supply was erratic and unregulated and inconsistent treatment of recruited staff was leading to high turnover.

Solution
Experis was invited to manage the client’s contract and permanent recruitment in the UK.  An on-site team was immediately set up to deliver a seamless service and fully understand the detailed requirements of each business area.  Existing contractors were successfully migrated from incumbent suppliers to the centralised management of the team enabling recruitment processes to be streamlined and terms the contractors were operating under to be standardised.
The next priority was to improve the quality of hire.  Using targeted media advertising, open days and recruitment fairs, the Experis team sought out high-calibre candidates and secured a more reliable flow of resource.  Responsibility was taken to screen previous assignments, monitor extensions and ensure all consultants were cleared to the appropriate level (BC, SC, DV).
The client has been provided with greater visibility on their recruitment activities and ongoing consolidated management information, pay rate benchmarking and competitor analysis.

Achievements
To date, the partnership has achieved cost savings equivalent to £9.6 million.  These savings have been achieved by the simplification of processes, reduction of turnover and the strategic shift to permanent staffing where appropriate. Reliance on contractors has been reduced from 40% to just 20% of the workforce.

Experis has reduced the time to hire by 30%, vastly improving our client’s ability to quickly respond to changing recruitment requirements.  Furthermore, by achieving a fully compliant workforce, with all consultants security cleared to the appropriate level, Experis has mitigated significant risk.

The future
Our client extended the Experis contract for a further three years in addition to the original four year agreement. Our delivery and performance has been instrumental in winning business for our client, both in the UK and Europe, and we will continue to work with them to explore future opportunities.
